Southern Moreton Bay Tourist Drive

The southern leg of the Moreton Bay Tourist Drive takes in areas in the Redland Shire, and Wynnum/Manly precinct. Here are some attractions to look out for along the way.

What will you see there?

Historically significant Fort Lytton - just east of downtown Brisbane - is a fascinating historical landmark which once protected Brisbane from enemy attacks. Keep driving towards Wynnum where you can walk the boardwalk and view mangrove ecosystems.

Not far away in beautiful Manly you can drive along the esplanade and see the spectacular yachts and boats or head off for a cruise or tour with one of the many operators departing from Manly Boat Harbour. Have a bite to eat in one of the many fine eateries in the area before continuing down to the Redlands area.

The Redlands section of the drive will take you to a variety of ecological, cultural and historial sites including Ormiston House, the Black Swamp Wetlands, Cleveland Lighthouse, Redlands Museum and Sirromet Winery. This drive has many nature reserves and educative centers where both adults and children can learn about the sensitive natural environment which is central to the Redland Shire. Other nature sites to visit on this drive are Point Halloran Conservation Reserve, Eprapah Environmental Centre and Egret Colony Wetlands .

How to get there?

For this trip, you head from north to south. From Sandgate and Shorncliffe, head south back along Gympie Road towards downtown Brisbane. Cross the Storey Bridge and take Shaftson Avenue. Continue along this route, which leads into Lytton Road, then take Wynnum Road and follow it all the way. Continue through to the Redlands Shire and follow the dugong signs around.
